The Broncos took 2 out of 3 from the visiting Central Oregon Bobcats.

Jacob Lord took the mound for the Broncos in game 1 and delivered 6 solid innings giving up only 1 hit and striking out 6, but the Broncos couldn’t hold the 3-1 lead going into the final inning as the Bobcats battled back to deliver a heartbreaking 3-5 opening loss to the Broncos. The offense struggled to get anything going and could only muster up a total of 3 singles from Ryan Cooper, JJ Kunhle & Wyatt Brimhall.

The Broncos bounced back in game 2 and got a stellar complete game 6 hit effort from Tanner McDonald on the rubber and cruised to an 8-1 victory. The bats woke up as the Broncos rapped out 9-hits led by red-hot Nate Venneri (3×4, 2B, 2R) and Thomas Durkin’s towering 5th inning Grand Slam down the LF line. Rory Patterson added 2 hits while Mitchell Allison and Grant Gaynor added his of their own.

Game 3 started out with a literal bang as the Bobcats loaded the bases with 1 out in the top of the first. The Bobcats #5 hit a flyball to right that initially looked deep enough to get the runner in from 3rd for the early lead. Right Fielder Cohen Hoover made the catch then fired a perfect throw to catcher Rory Patterson. The incoming Bobcats runner decided not to slide but instead barreled into Patterson. The ensuing collision saw helmets flying and both players falling to the ground while Patterson made the tag and held onto the ball for the final out of the inning. The collision along with the ensuing stare down from Patterson was enough to energize the Broncos as they went on to pound out 17 hits in a 13-4 victory. Nate Venneri again lead the charge (3×5, 2B, 2R, 2RBI) with Bo Houston, Justin Spohr and JJ Kunhle each contributing 2 hits. Brothers Brady and Brett Armitage, Mark Scheiber, Wyatt Brimhall, Ryan Cooper, Rory Patterson, Jacob Lord & Cohen Hoover each contributed with hits of their own. Thomas Durkin and Mitchell Allison split duties on the mound and combined for 9 Ks for the W.

The 2 wins on the weekend brings the Broncos overall record to 17-7, with an impressive 8-1 league mark. The Broncos head to Montana State this weekend for an important 3-game league series. Go Broncos!
